Sheena came to her painting life with a quiet confidence that was founded on the strength and knowledge she had gained from the traditional skills and techniques passed onto her by her mother. These she transformed into unique and dramatic landscapes.
In 1998 Margie West, the then curator of indigenous art at the MAGNT, described her art as follows
"Sheena applies painterly fields of colour of vibrancy and spontaneity equal to anything produced by the fauves."
In 1994 Sheena began painting with the Joshua Sisters at Ngukurr and from then produced six solo exhibitions and ten group exhibitions including her first in 1997 with Karen Brown Gallery in Darwin and Gallery Gabrielle Pizzi in Melbourne and on going til 2011.
From 1997 – 2002 Sheena was a Telstra NATSIAA finalist six times consecutively from the 14th to 19th National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award 1997 Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Sheena also had works acquired by the MAGNT collection and selected for the touring exhibition in 2000.
