Rensa - Julian L.W. Brown

Rensa

153 x 100 cmFramed: 154 x 90 cmacrylic on linen

After four years diving for Paspaley in WA and the NT, Julian was inspired to paint ‘Iridescent’ and ‘Rensa’; the movement of light and colour under the water.
This collection of works captures his unique view of light and water movements playing above the lines, pearl shells and oyster beds.
“You’ll feel the rensa… the balance in these paintings. The stillness and the pace. Diving has taken me into a world of unexpected patterns set free by nature. Being underwater gives rhythm in my world. When I started to paint these works, I didn’t know what to expect, but the design of the cray and its uniqueness inspired me, thus the ocean became the idea for the placement of the lines. When you are diving for pearls, the lines are rust and pearl coloured, and with pearl shell an underwater cultivated world also grows and reflects light.
Painting these experiences is so therapeutic to me now.”
