01 May – 15 May 25
Karen Brown Fine Art / Garramilla/Darwin
Isa McDinny brings her lived experiences of traditions and land into her paintings, creating powerful landscapes.
Her paintings recall her vivid memories from the ‘old days’ and she maps them out in her art.

Isa is the eldest daughter of Dinny McDinny and her paintings come to her in her dreams from her father; specific colours, marks and evocative images, a powerful expression of her father’s voice. Her imagery is confident and at times, minimal, leaving only a few elements to represent a vast world of inherited knowledge.

‘This place is Warngkurlarli, my father’s country.

The painting is inside the rocks… and these rocks here, we call it dungala…
We always go there.
That’s where the old people used to paint before.

We look after this country.’
